runner feels compassion for a man carrying rifle and pitbulls at open carry foot race

#162 "Free"

I read recently that there were some "open carry" races in the USA in which some gun owners wore rifles and hand guns to express what they believe is a form of freedom. Since the race was on public roads, and the states had open carry laws, then it was perfectly legal. If I saw a bunch of people running down the road (or walking inside a department store) with guns, I'd feel a bit intimidated and on edge. How do you know who's crazy and who isn't? A true runner wouldn't carry in a race...too much drag. The worst that we fear happening is failing to finish, missing a personal record by a few seconds, or annoying gastral-intestinal issues. We don't need guns to protect against those things.
